Mission Statement
The mission of the Moorhead Basketball Association is to expand basketball opportunities for the Moorhead area youth.
Overview
The MBA is the official league of the Moorhead Spuds Basketball Program. If your player wants to be a better basketball player, the MBA is for them.
Facts
The MBA is for boys and girls PreK - 8th grade with tournaments in & outside the FM Area. There are 2 practices per week with games played on Saturdays.
Spuds Boys & Girls “Mini-Hoopers” Grades Pre-K to 2nd Grade
2023 Spuds Boys & Girls “Mini-Hoopers”
Mini Hoopers is a fun time for boys and girls starting in grades Pre-K to 2nd grade. It will be held in the Moorhead Horizon West Gymnasium.
Dates
Saturday January 14th, 21st, 28th, and February 4th
Times
PreK- Kindergarten: 8:30am - 9:15am
1st -2nd 9:30am - 10:30am
- Members of the boys & girls Spud basketball teams will be in attendance to teach the game of basketball and interact with your son or daughter.
- Each session will consist of fundamental skill development and fun basketball drills/contests.
- Each player will receive a t-shirt for participating.

2022-2023 Information By Grade
All teams will be formed by the Moorhead High School coaching staff. 3rd grade teams are evenly split, 4th through 8th grade teams are split A/B.
Evaluations/Tryouts will be on Sunday, September 25th and October 2nd. Practices start the week of Monday, October 24th.
Boys Tryout Schedule:
3rd Grade 1-2pm
7th Grade 2-3pm
8th Grade 3-4pm
5th Grade 4-5pm
4th Grade 5-6pm
6th Grade 6-7pm
Girls Tryout Schedule:
6th Grade 1-2pm
5th Grade 2-3pm
4th Grade 3-4pm
3rd Grade 4-5pm
With our 7th and 8th graders we will only do 1 day of tryouts in December on a Sunday that works when their school season is completed.
Pre K - 2nd Grade: Mini-Hoopers

- Each player will receive a t-shirt for participating.
- Members of the Spuds Boys & Girls Basketball Teams will be in attendance to work with your son or daughter and HAVE FUN!

3rd Grade:
- Teams are split evenly.
- All teams will play in the Metro League through December.
- All teams will play in 3 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
4th Grade:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All teams will play in the Metro league through December 18th.
- All teams will play the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
5th/6th Grade:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All “A” teams will be competitive travel teams. They will play the MHD tourney + 6 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
- All “B” teams will play in the Metro league through December. They will then play in the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournament scheduled by the MBA.
7th/8th Grade Boys:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All “A” teams will be competitive travel teams. They will play the MHD tournament + 4 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
- All “B” teams will play in the Metro league through December. They will then play in the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournament scheduled by the MBA.
7th/8th Grade Girls:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All “A” teams will be competitive travel teams. They will play the MHD tournament + 4 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
- All “B” teams will play in the MHD tournament + 4 additional tournament scheduled by the MBA.
MBA Fees:
- 3rd and 4th grade $225 for full Metro league schedule and/or tournaments.
- 5th and 6th grade $250 for full Metro league schedule and/or tournaments.
- 7th through 8th grade $200 for 4 travel tournaments.
- Scholarships are available. Fund-raising through sponsorships are used for scholarships and expenses.
- Picture dates and order forms will be handed out at a practice in October.
* With travel tournament entry fees changing from year to year there may be additional fees for travel tournaments that have spectator passes included with the tournament fee.

Registering on-line is the preferred method for signing up with MBA. If you are unable to register online please print and complete the off-line registration form and mail in the forms and check. Thank you.

As a volunteer position, the MBA wants to thank you in advance for taking your time to help our Moorhead youth learn about the benefits and values of being part of a team and a learning the game of basketball.
Coaches' Online Registration
A coaches meeting will be held at the Moorhead High School Gymnasium. This is a mandatory meeting.
Mandatory Concussion Training
Each Coach is required to complete an online concussion training. The concussion course created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will educate you on the following:
- Understanding a concussion and the potential consequences of the injury
- Recognize concussion signs and symptoms and how to respond
- Learn about steps for returning to activity (play & school) after a concussion
- Focus on prevention and preparedness to help keep athletes safe season-to-season
