Mission Statement
The mission of the Moorhead Basketball Association is to expand basketball opportunities for the Moorhead area youth.
Overview
The MBA is the official league of the Moorhead Spuds Basketball Program. If your player wants to be a better basketball player, the MBA is for them.
Facts
The MBA is for boys and girls K - 8th grade with tournaments in & outside the FM Area. There are 2 practices per week with games played on Saturdays.
Spuds Boys & Girls “Mini-Hoopers” Grades Pre-K to 2nd Grade
2021 Spuds Boys & Girls “Mini-Hoopers”
Mini Hoopers is a fun time for boys and girls starting in grades Pre-K to 2nd grade. It will be held in the Moorhead Horizon Gymnasiums.
Dates
Saturday January 15th, 22nd, 29th, and February 5th
Times
Pre-K - Kindergarten: 8:00 am - 8:45 am
1st - 2nd: 9:00 am - 10:00 am
- Members of the boys & girls Spud basketball teams will be in attendance to teach the game of basketball and interact with your son or daughter.
- Each session will consist of fundamental skill development and fun basketball drills/contests.
- Each player will receive a t-shirt for participating.

2021-2022 Information By Grade
All teams will be formed by the Moorhead High School coaching staff. 3rd grade teams are evenly split, 4th through 8th grade teams are split A/B.
Evaluations will be on Sunday, October 10th and 17th. Practices start the week of Monday, October 25th.
Pre K - 2nd Grade: Mini-Hoopers
- Saturday January 15th, 22nd, 29th, and February 5th at Horizon Gymnasiums.
- Each player will receive a t-shirt for participating.
- Members of the Spuds Boys & Girls Basketball Teams will be in attendance to work with your son or daughter and HAVE FUN!

3rd Grade:
- Teams are split evenly.
- All teams will play in the Metro League through December.
- All teams will play in 3 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
4th Grade:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All teams will play in the Metro league through December 16th.
- All teams will play the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
5th/6th Grade:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All “A” teams will be competitive travel teams. They will play the MHD tourney + 6 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
- All “B” teams will play in the Metro league through December. They will then play in the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournament scheduled by the MBA.
7th/8th Grade Boys:
- Teams are split A and B.
- All “A” teams will be competitive travel teams. They will play the MHD tournament + 4 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
- All “B” teams will play in the Metro league through December. They will then play in the MHD tournament + 2 additional tournament scheduled by the MBA.
7th/8th Grade Girls:
- December 20th to February (Registration Deadline December 1st).
- Teams will play in the MHD tournament + 4 additional tournaments scheduled by the MBA.
MBA Fees:
- 3rd - 8th fees include 1 month of Sanford Power Skills Sessions with Freddy Coleman
- 3rd through 6th grade $200 for full Metro league schedule and/or tournaments
- 7th through 8th grade $150 for 4 travel tournaments.
- Scholarships are available. Fund-raising through sponsorships are used for scholarships and expenses.
- Picture dates and order forms will be handed out at a practice in October.
* With travel tournament entry fees changing from year to year there may be additional fees for travel tournaments that have spectator passes included with the tournament fee.
Off-line MBA Youth Basketball Registration Grades K-8
Registering on-line is the preferred method for signing up with MBA. If you are unable to register online please print and complete the off-line registration form and mail in the forms and check. Thank you.
Youth Boys Basketball Tournament
WHEN: Saturday, December 4th, 2021
WHERE: Moorhead, Minnesota (multiple gym sites will be used)
ENTRY: $200/team ***3 game guarantee
- Awards will be given in each age division based on the number of teams entered.
- Open to all levels of teams; schedules/brackets will be completed based on the responses regarding the strength of each team.
- Full concessions will be available.
